 | New Words - Brian Stokes Mitchell The first time I heard broadway star Brian 'Stokes' Mitchell perform this lullaby entitled "New Words", my soul was deeply touched. I was moved to tears, not only by Stokes passionate performance, but also by the message of the piece. This song reminds us that 'Life is There For Living, and Love is There For Giving'! Words and music are by Tony-award winning composer Maury Yeston for his 1987 Broadway theater peice; 'In The Beginning'. The song has special meaning for Stokes, as his son Ellington was born during the holiday season, and started trying out his own "new words" the following Christmas. Stokes, and Mark Watters did the arrangement for this recording. It was performed last year in Salt Lake City, and is included on the 2009 Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert / PBS special, entitled "Ring Christmas Bells", (CD and DVD). tinyurl.com This video is a work of love, I created it for two reasons. 1. as a tribute to Stokes, whom I deeply admire as a performer and as a person, and 2. As a holiday gift to all the families of the earth. I personally feel this song captures the very essense of Christmas. A Child. AFather, The Spirit of Wonder, and the Wonders of Creation - all wrapped up in one marvelous musical package for you to enjoy. May God Bless you with peace this season, and may we each strive to keep the spirit of child-like Wonder, in our hearts all year! _______________ Look up there, high above us, In a sky of blackest silk.
