Airline: Air Asia Flight Number: AK5442 Aircraft: Airbus A320 Seat: 1A Flight duration: 55minutes Pleasant, short flight from Johor Bahru (JHB) to Penang (PEN). Had to pay 50MYR extra for the seat each way, as it is called a 'HotSeat', seats in the first 3 or 4 rows, as well 2 rows in the middle / exit rows of the plane, can be booked that way for an extra 50MYR in advance. Advantage: Most people prefer not to pay the extra money, so lot of room to spread out. Smooth, uneventful flight. No turbulence and breathtaking views of the beautiful island whilst approaching the airport. Crew nice but no frills, everything has to be purchased on board, from water to soft-drinks, coffee, tea etc. Nothing is free on board. Tip: Make sure you order your food in advance, as the crew does not stock anything other than those orders, so nothing to eat besides peanuts perhaps, if you don't book and pay in advance. Would recommend Air Asia, it is inexpensive if you stay away from basically any extras and just stick to the basic fare. There is also no 'business class' on any of the short-haul flights.
