 | Krzysztof Antkowiak records the Yamaha GX-1 Pt 1 I am currently producing the thirs album of the polish artist Krzysztof Antkowiak and today we started working on song number seven for the album. It turned out to be a slightly dancey track with drummachines, VP-330+, synkits and other nonsense... Well anyway I had a feeling that one of the Yamaha GX-1 sounds just might fit the track. The sound you can hear is coming from the two massive tone cabinets left and right of the three manual keyboard. This Yamaha GX-1 belongs to Benny Andersson of ABBA and used to be located at the Polar studio. Now it is at Roth Händle studios. It is the same machine John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin used on In through the outdoor.  | Spacey sounds on the Yamaha GX-1 Over the last two months or so I have been working quite a lot in the studio. Sorting out the last bits and pieces with the Tarantula album as well as doing some soundtrack stuff. The Yamaha GX-1 is one of the rarest and most mythical analog keyboards. Only about twelve were made, some people say less and when it came 1974 it was priced at a hefty 60 000 dollars. Users include Keith Emerson, Stevie Wonder and Benny Andersson from Abba. The Yamaha GX-1 you can see in these films belongs to him and it used to reside at the infamous Polar Studio in Stockholm. It was used extensively on the last three Abba Albums but also by Led Zeppelin on their In through the outdoor album as it was recorded at Polar. At Roth HÄndle it has been used by bands such as Blanc, Celestine and Tarantula. Therefor I felt like having a bit of informational fun and invited keyboardist Linus Kåse (Brighteye Brison) over to film some new snippets. A bit of Mellotron, some synths, odd keyboards and all. The snippets are quite short but rather too short than too long, right ? Anyways, I hope you´ll enjoy them.  | The beat from Palookaville messing with the Yamaha GX-1 Tomorrow Thursday will be a big day because we will be changing the power supply for the Yamaha GX-1. But yesterday I had a wonderful swedish band visiting me in the studio. The are called the beat from Palookaville and I couldn't resist turning on the GX-1 and let Torbjörn fiddle around with the giant synth. The synth is terribly out of tune because we didn't really let it warm up but you can sort of get an idea of the textures...YOu should also keep in mind that this is the first time Torbjörn sat down at this synth. Anyways it might be of some interest... I think he was very intrigued by the knee control...
