![]() | The Lady Vanishes: Margaret Lockwood, Michael Redgrave, Paul Lukas (1938 Movie) DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The Lady Vanishes is a 1938 British thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock and adapted by Sidney Gilliat and Frank Launder from the 1936 novel The Wheel Spins by Ethel Lina White. It stars Margaret Lockwood, Michael Redgrave, Paul Lukas and Dame May Whitty, and features Cecil Parker, Linden Travers, Naunton Wayne, Basil Radford, Mary Clare, Googie Withers, Catherine Lacey and Sally Stewart. The Lady Vanishes is Hitchcock's penultimate film made in the UK before his move to Hollywood--1939's Jamaica Inn followed it. It was the great success of The Lady Vanishes, after a slump of three films that were not hits, that made it possible for Hitchcock to negotiate a very good deal to work in the States. A remake, also entitled The Lady Vanishes, was made in 1979. In Bandrika, a fictional country in an "uncivilised" region of immediately pre-World War II Central Europe, a motley group of travellers eager to return to England is delayed by an avalanche that has blocked the railway tracks. At night, a folk singer plays a tune al fresco that catches the attention of Miss Froy (May Whitty), an elderly lady who has worked some years abroad as a governess. The folk singer is suddenly silenced--apparently murdered. Among the train's passengers are Gilbert (Michael Redgrave), a young musicologist who has been studying the folk songs of the region, Iris (Margaret Lockwood), a young woman of independent means who has spent a holiday with some ... 2011年08月15日再生回数 366945 |
![]() | Allied Victory in World War II Documentary: D-Day to VE Day (WW2 Film 1945) DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org The True Glory was a 1945 co-production of the US Office of War Information and the British Ministry of Information, documenting the victory on the Western Front, from Normandy to the collapse of the Third Reich. Although many individuals contributed to the film, British director Carol Reed is normally credited as the director. The film was promoted with the tagline, "The story of your victory...told by the guys who won it!" It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. The documentary is notable for using multiple first person perspectives as narrative voices, somewhat in the manner of Tunisian Victory, except this time, instead of just an American GI and a British Tommie, the voices include a Canadian, a French resister, a Parisan civilian family, an African-American tank gunner, and several female perspectives including a nurse, and clerical staff. The film is introduced by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, and many other prominent individuals appear in it including General George S. Patton. The Allies of World War II were the countries that opposed the Axis powers during the Second World War (1939--1945). Former Axis states contributing to the allied victory are not considered Allied states. The Allies became involved in World War II either because they had already been invaded, were directly threatened with invasion by the Axis or because they were concerned that the Axis powers ...

It was directed by Don Hartman who co-wrote screenplay with Edwin H. Knopf, based on play by Edwin H. Knopf. The music score is by Bronisław Kaper. One event in the film that slipped by un-noticed was when Lana Turner (at her own insistence and after an argument with the director) introduced "The Guadalajara Trio" by name, although they were not listed in the screen credits. In the manner of the way that Latino actors and musicians were often treated, they were also omitted from the credits of several other films like 'My Friend Irma Goes West" with Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis even though they did several beautiful songs. Cast Lana Turner as Fredda Barlo Ezio Pinza as Mr. Imperium Marjorie Main as Mrs. Cabot Barry Sullivan as Paul Hunter Cedric Hardwicke as Bernand Debbie Reynolds as Gwen Ann Codee as Anna Pelan The Guadalajara Trio (Francisco, Luis, Joseph) as Themselves Lana Turner (February 8, 1921 -- June 29, 1995) was an American actress.
