 | Kyu (Former) Furukawa Gardens, Tokyo ーPart 1 「旧古河庭園」 The land of this garden used to belong to Munemitsu Mutsu, but when his second son became a son-in-law of the Furukawa Zaibatsu (combine) it changed hands and became a property of the Furukawas. The current gardens are divided into two gardens: one is a Western-style garden with a Western-style house and a Japanese-style one. On this video you see the former with roses in full bloom. Incidentally, this building and garden were designed by the English architect Josiah Conder, who also designed such famous buildings as the Rokumeikan, The Holy Resurrection Church, Nikorai-do, the former Iwasaki Gardens. It was designed by Jihei Ogawa (1860-1933), a gardener from Kyoto. While the Western part is stylish and gorgeous, the Japanese Garden is pretty subdued but it can fully compare with the former one in terms of beauty.
