TEITO MONOGATARI (帝都物語) Manga Adaptation Part 1TEITO MONOGATARI (帝都物語) Manga Adaptation Part 1
This is it folks...the first part of the official manga adaptation of TEITO MONOGATARI (aka DOOMED MEGALOPOLIS aka TOKYO: THE LAST MEGALOPOLIS)! It was released somewhere around the 90's and covers the same story as the anime and first live action movie. I'm not a fan of watching a slideshow of scanned pages, so I cut out each panel and added music from the soundtrack of the anime and the live action film to make the experience a little more cinematic. I'm sorry if the panels move a bit too fast or too slow--I was trying to adjust the speed based on what's happening in them. I hope you enjoy these additions. I will upload more parts as I process them. NOTE: I do not have translations for the dialogue as this has not been officially released in the West. Also, this is the Hong Kong version of the manga, meaning that the dialogue here is all in Chinese, not Japanese. If you've seen the anime or watched the live action film, you should have a basic understanding of the story. NOTE: I will add annotations for names of characters. I do not own TEITO MONOGATARI or any of the adaptations or the soundtracks. They are the creative property of Kadokawa Shoten, Hiroshi Aramata and all affiliates.

DOOMED MEGALOPOLIS (帝都物語): Gakutensoku (學天則)DOOMED MEGALOPOLIS (帝都物語): Gakutensoku (學天則)
A couple of scenes featuring Japan's first modern robot in action. From Wikipedia: Gakutensoku (學天則, Japanese for "learning from the laws of nature"), the first robot to be built in Japan, was created in Osaka in 1929. The robot was designed and manufactured by biologist Makoto Nishimura (1883-1956, father of actor Ko Nishimura). Nishimura had served as a professor at Hokkaido Imperial University, studied Marimo and was an editorial adviser to the Osaka Mainichi newspaper (now the Mainichi Shimbun). Gakutensoku could change its facial expression and move its head and hands via an air pressure mechanism. It had a pen-shaped Signal arrow in its right hand and a lamp named Reikantō (霊感灯, Japanese for "inspiration light") in its left hand. Perched on top of Gakutensoku was a bird-shaped robot named Kokukyōchō (告暁, Japanese for "bird informing dawn"). When Kokukyōchō cried, Gakutensoku's eyes closed and its expression became pensive. When the lamp shone, Gakutensoku started to write words with the pen. Gakutensoku was displayed at some expositions in Japan, but was lost while touring Germany in the 1930s. A modern version of Gakutensoku was produced in 2008 by the Osaka Science Museum where it is now on display. An article about his history and reconstruction: thomasfortenberry.net

DOOMED MEGALOPOLIS (帝都物語): Kato's OriginDOOMED MEGALOPOLIS (帝都物語): Kato's Origin
Undoubtedly my favorite scene from the anime. I love the gothic representation of all these sacred Japanese locations and figures. I also love how Hirai ties in all these mystics from Japan's past with Kato's birth. The transcript: "Lieutenant Kato's birthplace was RYUJIN VILLAGE in Wakayama prefecture. According to the legend, Ryujin Village was also the birthplace of SEIMEI ABE, and at the same time, the TSUCHIMIKADO FAMILY came from there originally. Ryujin Village is a holy place which is famous among people. The one who founded the place was the ancestor of asceticism, ENNO OZUNU. You can go to the back of the forbidden place, MT. KOYA, from the village, therefore, the legend says that KOHBO-DAISHI KUKAI received a message from NANDA, THE DRAGON KING, in a dream and opened the place. There is no Kato family in Ryujin Village. There is no Kato in the ancient documents. However, this village is close to the place where ascetics have trained, and there were many rumors in that village about strangers who sometimes appeared in the nearby mountains and used magic. I believe Kato is the descendant of the ancient people who never obeyed the founder, and he inherited both the curse and the magic of the KIBI. The only other key to solving the mystery of Yasunori Kato, is the curse. That is all." I do not own this. Bandai does now.

TEITO MONOGATARI (帝都物語) Manga Adaptation Part 2TEITO MONOGATARI (帝都物語) Manga Adaptation Part 2
This is the second part of the manga adaptation of TEITO MONOGATARI. I tried to make the pictures move a little bit faster this time around in order to fit in a climactic scene at the end. I hope viewers don't find this too frustrating. I do not own TEITO MONOGATARI or any of the adaptations or the soundtracks. They are the creative property of Kadokawa Shoten, Hiroshi Aramata and all affiliates.

TEITO MONOGATARI (帝都物語) Manga Adaptation Part 3TEITO MONOGATARI (帝都物語) Manga Adaptation Part 3
Third part of the official manga adaptation of TEITO MONOGATARI. The slides move a little bit slower in this one not because I changed my mind, but because there's not a lot of action in this portion of the story, and I wanted this part to end at an important transitional point in the plot. I do not own TEITO MONOGATARI or any of the adaptations or the soundtracks. They are the creative property of Kadokawa Shoten, Hiroshi Aramata and all affiliates.
