 | Homestay - Kampung Sg Duri スンガイ・ルリー村のホームステイ Sungai Duri is a small Malay kampung located at the Sungai Jawi area of Seberang Perai Selatan. Essentially a rural village, it is almost surrounded by palm oil estates. It is also very near to the town of Jawi and Sungai Bakap. Program participants who visit Kampung Sungai Duri can enjoy visiting the many fruit orchards in the village. During the fruit season, the visitors can enjoy durians, rambutans, cempedak and mangosteen, the three most famous seasonal fruits. There are other non-seasonal fruits grown all year round in Sungai Duri, including the papaya and pineapple. There is also a unique Pokok Salak fruit whereby the gender of the tree is either a 'male' or 'female'. The fruit is edible, and it shaped almost like the palm oil seed. Visitors can also view and take part in the making of local delicacies such as the dodol and keropok. Dodol is a sticky delicacy made from caramelized sugar, which keropok are prawn- and fish-based crackers. The womenfolk of Sungai Duri make ketupat wraps for steaming pressed rice, as well as the weaving of mats and baskets. Nearby attractions include a visit to the waterfall at Sungai Kelian and firefly watching during the nights at Nibong Tebal town. These areas can be reached by a 30-minute car ride. A short walk to the furniture factory is also a major attraction. Muriel Landers (October 27, 1921 -- February 19, 1977) was an American actress, singer and dancer. She made over 30 film and television appearances between 1950 and 1971. Modern viewers will recognize Landers as Joe Besser's sister "Tiny" in the Three Stooges film Sweet and Hot. In this episode, Landers sang "Let's Fall in Love", revealing a strong and sultry singing voice." Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Landers made television appearances on such shows as Lidsville, Hogan's Heroes, The Jack Benny Show, The Red Skelton Show and The Beverly Hillbillies. Landers also made a memorable appearance in The Twilight Zone episode "A Piano in the House", playing Marge Moore, an overweight woman who is forced to reveal her inner sadness about feeling unloved and unwanted because of her girth. And in the 1970s she played MOMMY HOODOO in the Sid and Marty Kroft production of Lidsville. Landers suffered from hypertension and diabetes in the final years of her life. She died of a stroke on February 19, 1977, and is interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
