 | NUTNFANCY SHOT 2012: CZ-USA Custom Pistols! Maybe you're into CZ pistols, maybe not but chances are you will find this discussion interesting. These are my favorite type of booth reviews at SHOT: detailed information and discussion with a technical and passionate expert in the stuff we love. It's hard to find folks like that in the annoyingly busy SHOT atmosphere but sometimes I can and magic happens. This is one of those TNP videos. And if you've ever considered ordering a Custom Shop CZ pistol, this vid will provide direction and welcome details on perhaps some confusing variations. Luckily we have a great host steering us along. Meet CZ Pro shooter Angus Hobdell. He's a winning competitor and Captain of CZ USA Shooting Team. And even more interesting to me, he heads up the CZ-USA Custom Shop in Mesa, Arizona. Like all great pistoleros, he has preferences and he explains them in entertaining and funny fashion at times (great job Angus!). He and his team work the steel, angles, triggers, and sights of the production CZs to create masterpieces of function and speed. We look and discuss these in detail. Such work doesn't come cheap nor can it as this US produced custom guns take lots of hours to create.  | CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom: "Long Term Redemption" by Nutnfancy In the role of combat sidearm, the CZ 75 SP-01 will excel. For me it stands out in the CZ lineup due to its light carry weight of 28.5 ounces (empty with magazine). For a full size service pistol with a 4.7" barrel and 18+1 rounds standard, that is a solid achievement. It opens up lots of POUs with this gun. Some may prefer the P-07 Duty model for its weight as well but it does not offer the longer sight radius and extra velocity of the Phantom. The Phantom as of mid-2010 is my top pick out of the line for use in the sidearm role. It will also make an excellent home defense, officers primary, WROL, or even competition handgun (steel SP-01 may be better in that POU). It inherits and benefits from the CZ lineage that established such a foothold in the 1980s (discussed). Back then the CZ 75 won over thousands of fans for its excellent grip, higher magazine capacity, great durability and reliability, and high accuracy. It established a mystique as well that for many still continues to this day. Those attributes are all found in the SP-01 Phantom. I however cannot say that it is better than the competing polymer designs of Springfield XD/XDM, Glock, Sig 250 series, S&W M&P series, FNP/FNX series, Ruger SR9, H&K USP/P series, etc. It simply achieves their same high levels of performance in a handsome form factor that appeals to DA/SA lockwork aficionados like myself.  | CZ-75B - 9mm Full Size Handgun Brief late night video on an excellent pistol. This in my opinion is the quintessential 9mm! Even if you don't particularly like the cartridge, this gun may sway your mind on owning a gun that utilizes this caliber. It's just such a sweet shooting pistol. It's hard to match how comfortable and natural one of these feels. I'm clearly biased towards it, but for good reason. This is THE 9mm. The CZ-75B is what happens when you take the greatest aspect of the Sig Sauer P210 (slide in frame) and combine it with yet another incredible pistol - the Browning Hi Power (double stack mag -- cocked and locked). Jeff Cooper didn't give the CZ-75 his approval for nothing. I love all guns, but this one is special. It's too bad it's not more popular over here in the states. People are really missing out in a world dominated by Glocks and Springfields. I like my Glock, but if I could only have one, well... you know which one I'd be taking. CZ all the way.
