 | 【重要】人類家畜化計画 エドワード・マンデル・ハウス大佐 （日本語字幕版） 少し難解な部分もありますが、重要なものなので最後までお付き合い下さい。 外交問題評議会の起源は、ウッドロー・ウィルソン大統領の外交ブレーンだったエドワード・マンデル・ハウス大佐が主宰した「大調査（Inquiry）」グループに求められる。同グループは1917年から1918年にかけて第一次世界大戦後の戦後国際秩序を検討するため、国務省とは別個に招集された知識人グループであり、ウォルター・リップマンが参加したことでも知られる。「大調査」グループはその一部がヴェルサイユ講和会議にも随員として加わり、講和会議に参加していた英国の外交官、研究者らと意気投合した。米英両国の人士は1919年5月30日、講和実現後もその知的交流を継続させるため米英両国共同の国際問題研究機関を設置し、ニューヨークとロンドンにそれぞれの支部を設置することで同意した。英国側は翌1920年に王立国際問題研究所としてこの組織を早々に樹立するが、米国側では資金難からその設立が難航、ようやく1921年2月3日に「大調査」グループと、1918年6月に設立され、実業家、国際弁護士らが主宰していた資金力豊富なサロン「外交問題評議会（現行の組織と同名）」の合流が合意され、同年7月29日に現行の外交問題評議会が総勢75名で発足することとなった。初代会長にはサロン時代の会長を務めていた元国務長官エリフー・ルートを迎えている。なお、この設立の際にメンバーは「米国市民に限るべき」という議論が旧外交問題評議会メンバーから上がったことから、王立国際問題研究所とは袂を分かつこととなる。現在も会員は合衆国市民と永住権獲得者に限定されている。参考：ウィキペディア 2011年08月23日再生回数 799 |

Composed of thin, English-born Stan Laurel (1890--1965) and heavy, American-born Oliver Hardy (1892--1957) they became well known during the late 1920s to the mid-1940s for their work in motion pictures; the team also appeared on stage throughout America and Europe. The two comedians first worked together on the film The Lucky Dog. After a period appearing separately in several short films for the Hal Roach studio during the 1920s, they began appearing in movie shorts together in 1926. Laurel and Hardy officially became a team the following year, and soon became Hal Roach's most lucrative stars. Among their most popular and successful films were the features Sons of the Desert (1933), Way Out West (1937), and Block-Heads (1938) and the shorts Big Business (1929), Liberty (1929), and their Academy Award-winning short, The Music Box (1932). The pair left the Roach studio in 1940, then appeared in eight "B" comedies for 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1941 to 1945. Disappointed in the films in which they had little creative control, from 1946 to 1950 the team did not appear on film and concentrated on their stage show, embarking on a musical hall tour of England, Ireland and Scotland. The show, created by Chester Lauck and Norris Goff, and modelled on life in the small town of Waters, Arkansas near where they grew up, was immensely popular, and Waters changed its name to Pine Ridge in 1936, after the fictional town in the show. Lauck and Goff had known each other since childhood and attended the University of Arkansas together (joining the Sigma Chi Fraternity together while there). They performed locally and established a blackface act which led to an audition at radio station KTHS in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Prior to the audition, the two men decided to change their act and portray two hillbillies, since there was already an overabundance of blackface acts at the time. After only a few shows in Hot Springs, they were picked up nationally by NBC, and Lum and Abner, sponsored by Quaker Oats, ran until 1932. Lauck and Goff performed several different characters, modeling many of them after real-life residents of Waters, Arkansas. After the Quaker contract expired, Lauck and Goff continued to broadcast over two Texas stations, WBAP (Fort Worth) and WFAA (Dallas).
