![]() | Great Expectations: John Mills, Jean Simmons, Alec Guinness, Valerie Hobson (1946 Movie) DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Great Expectations is a 1946 British film which won two Academy Awards and was nominated for three others (best picture, best director and best screenplay). It was directed by David Lean, based on the novel by Charles Dickens and stars John Mills, Valerie Hobson, Finlay Currie, Martita Hunt and Alec Guinness. Jean Simmons, who played the role of the young Estella in the film, later played Miss Havisham in a 1989 version directed by Kevin Connor. The script, a slimmed-down version of Dickens' novel which had been inspired after seeing an abridged stage version of the novel, in which Guinness (responsible for the adaptation) played Herbert Pocket and Martita Hunt was Miss Havisham -- casting that was carried over into the film - was written by Anthony Havelock-Allan, David Lean, Cecil McGivern, Ronald Neame and Kay Walsh. The film was produced by Ronald Neame and photographed by Guy Green.[1] It was the first of two films Lean directed based on Dickens' novels, the other being his 1948 adaptation of Oliver Twist. ![]() | Dressed to Kill: Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, Patricia Morison (1946 Movie) DVD: www.amazon.com thefilmarchive.org Dressed to Kill (also known as Prelude to Murder or Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Code in the UK), is the last of fourteen films starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Doctor Watson. Though not directly based on any of Arthur Conan Doyle's Holmes stories, the film features several references to "A Scandal in Bohemia", with Holmes and Watson discussing the recent publication of the story in The Strand Magazine, and the villain of the film using the same trick on Watson that Holmes uses on Irene Adler in the story. The plot also bears some resemblance to "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons", which had previously been used for the Rathbone-Bruce film The Pearl of Death. Three cheap musical boxes (each one playing a subtly different version of "The Swagman"), manufactured in Dartmoor Prison, are sold at a local auction house. However, a criminal gang is determined to steal and recover all three, even if it means committing murder. Sherlock Holmes tries to recover the music boxes and crack the secret code contained in the tune before the gang can get what they want. Cast Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes Nigel Bruce as Dr. John H. Watson Patricia Morison as Mrs. Hilda Courtney Edmund Breon as 'Stinky' Emery (as Edmond Breon) Frederick Worlock as Colonel Cavanaugh (as Frederic Worlock) Carl Harbord as Inspector Hopkins Patricia Cameron as Evelyn Clifford Holmes Herbert as Ebenezer Crabtree Harry Cording as Hamid ... 2011年07月25日再生回数 118257 |

The movie was adapted by Martin Goldsmith and Martin Mooney (uncredited) from Goldsmith's novel and was directed by Edgar G. Ulmer. The 68-minute film was released by the Producers Releasing Corporation (PRC), one of the so-called "poverty row" film studios in mid-twentieth century Hollywood. Al dumps the body in a gully, takes Haskell's money, clothes and ID, then drives off in Haskell's expensive car. In voiceover, Al tells the audience that he did not kill Haskell. After spending the night in a motel, Al picks up another hitchhiker. ![]() | The Beverly Hillbillies: Chickadee Returns - Season 2, Episode 7 - Sharon Tate (1963) thefilmarchive.org DVD: www.amazon.com November 6, 1963 As marriage seemingly draws nearer, Jethro discovers a deal-breaking secret about Chickadee: she can't cook. In 1964, Tate made a screen test for Sam Peckinpah opposite Steve McQueen for the film The Cincinnati Kid. Ransohoff and Peckinpah agreed that Tate's timidity and lack of experience would cause her to flounder in such a large part, and she was rejected in favor of Tuesday Weld. She continued to gain experience with minor television appearances, and after she auditioned unsuccessfully for the role of Liesl in the film version of The Sound of Music, Ransohoff gave Tate walk-on roles in two motion pictures in which he was producer: The Americanization of Emily and The Sandpiper. In late 1965, Ransohoff finally gave Tate her first major role in a motion picture in the film Eye of the Devil, co-starring David Niven, Deborah Kerr, Donald Pleasence, and David Hemmings. Tate and Sebring traveled to London to prepare for filming, where she met the Alexandrian Wiccan High Priest and High Priestess Alex and Maxine Sanders, the former of whom duly initiated her into Wicca. Meanwhile, as part of Ransohoff's promotion of Tate, he arranged the production of a short documentary called All Eyes on Sharon Tate, to be released at the same time as Eye of the Devil. It included an interview with Eye of the Devil director J. Lee Thompson, who expressed his initial doubts about Tate's potential with the comment "We even agreed that ... 2011年11月11日再生回数 16782 |
