The group is one of the hardest working musical acts in showbiz, and one of the most educated. Douglas "Ranger Doug" Green has a Masters degree in literature, Fred "Too Slim" Labour has a Masters degree in Wildlife Management, and Paul "Woody Paul" Chisman has a Ph.D. in theoretical plasma physics from MIT. In their first 25 years, they have performed in over 5200 live performances, almost 300 national television appearances, over 200 public radio shows, 700 Grand Ole Opry appearances, three television series (including a 1991-92 CBS Saturday morning show), an appearance on a "Duck Dodgers" cartoon on the Cartoon Network and more than 30 albums. The group has also written and appeared in numerous Christmas specials on CMT/TNN in the 1990's. They are based and managed from Nashville, Tennessee.

I dont own the rights to this song. Tennessee Ernie Ford: The Ballad Of Davy Crockett. This song premiered on the first episode of "Disneyland," on October 27, 1954, put there to promote the upcoming Davy Crockett trilogy. Writers Tom Blackburn and George Bruns composed it in 20 minutes after Walt Disney had the idea to use the song as a device to help move the story along for the kids who would be watching. Tennessee Ernie Ford had a Top Five country and pop hit with it in 1955; Fess Parker (who played Crockett on TV) and Bill Hayes also had major hits with their versions the same year.

Fess Elisha Parker, Jr. (August 16, 1924 -- March 18, 2010) was an 6'6" American film and television actor best known for his portrayals of Davy Crockett in Walt Disney 1955-56 TV mini-series and as TV's Daniel Boone from 1964-70. Davy Crockett is a five part serial which aired on ABC in one-hour episodes on the Disneyland series, the series stars Fess Parker as Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as George Russel. The first three episodes of the serial were edited together as the 1955 theatrical film Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier. This series and film are known for the catchy theme song, "The Ballad of Davy Crockett". It was filmed in color at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the Mountain Farm Museum adjacent to the visitor center at Oconaluftee near Qualla Reservation's entrance and Janns Conejo Ranch, California.
