![]() | Gracie Fields 'Sally In Our Alley' Title Song After lots of misunderstandings and underhand dealings, Sally's sweetheart returns after being injured in the Great War. This song came to be Gracie's signature tune, as she said "I've been singing a man's song all my life!" They got round this by making the song the one that her man most liked to hear her sing. The film was made in 1931 and still contains elements of the cross-over from the silent era. Notice Florence Desmond's gestures, she's the girl that brings them both together at the end. 2009年12月29日再生回数 18699 |
![]() | Variety star Betty Driver sings " Stick Out Your Chin And Smile" from "Penny Paradise" (film) 1938 etty Driver (currently - 2011) - playing Betty in Coronation Street) was a fine singer on the variety stage and radio prior to her Street fame. Here she sings a jolly ditty from a 1938 British film "Penny Paradise" in which she starred with veteran British stage and screen actor Edmund Gwenn. (Gwenn will be remembered as Kris Kringle in the original 1947 film version of Miracle On 34th Street"). Betty was 18 years old when she made this film at the ATP studios in Ealing. Basil Dean had chosen her to follow in the illustrious footsteps of Gracie Fields and George Formby, who had been top-grossing Britsh film stars for the same studio earlier in the decade. Betty had been signed by Dean for a five picture deal, but this was interrupted in 1939 by the war and Ealing Studios were closed down for production. Betty's contract was cancelled - she had made only two films - Penny Paradise and Let's Be Famous. 2011年07月06日再生回数 8727 |
