	Der neunte tag (The Ninth Day) - Intro  The Ninth Day (2004) is a stunning film about the relationship between the Nazi party and the Catholic church, and the pressures the Fascists put on the Church are presented here through the relationship between Henri Kremer, recently released from Dachau, and the young Gestapo officer Gebhardt. Gebhardt's job is to convince father Kremer, within nine days, to use his influence within the church to get the bishop of Luxemburg to sign a statement by which the local clergy accepted the authority of Hitler's regime. Should Kremer refuse or fail in his persuasion, he is to be returned to the concentration camp. Gebhardt, himself a former candidate for the priesthood, is Satanically seductive and even likeable and charming at times, but violent and inhuman at others. He tries to convince the priest that the role of Judas is an essential one, and instead of being ignoble, it is an undervalued form of martyrdom. The story is based on a portion of "Pfarrerblock 25487", the diary of Father Jean Bernard (1907--1994), which was translated into English by Deborah Lucas Schneider as "Priestblock 25487: A Memoir of Dachau" and released in 2007.
