 | D-SUB connectors and their housing D-SUB is a name of an electric connector used particularly in computer equipment.This name "subminiature" was appropriate at the time when these connectors just appeared. Nowadays they belong to the category of the biggest connectors used in computers.D-SUB has two or more parallel rows of contacts usually protected by metallic enclosure in the form of letter "D". This enclosure provides fixation of the connecting and protects from electromagnetic interference.The connectors of this series may have different quantity of contacts:- usual density from 9 to 50;- high density from 15 to 78;- with enlarged or hybrid contacts from 3 to 43. D-SUB connectors are used for current up to 5 A with insulation resistance up to 1000 Ohm and contact resistance not more than 30 Mohm.There are the following type of D-SUB connectors:- solder connectors. They are mounted on the cable by soldering.- crimping connector. The contact is crimped on the cable and then it is inserted into the bar of the connector.- to spindle on the flat cable. The connector is spindled on the flat cable with 1.27 mm pitch. - for rapid mounting . The cable wires are distributed on the contact of the connector and then tightened by a special insert.- hybrid connectors. In one housing there are power contacts and signal contacts.According to their location on the board the connector may be divided into:- horizontal.
