Years later, after being reconciled with his rich father, who dies leaving him his money, he has to decide what kind of wife he will choose to share his life. Will he choose someone who shares his values or just a woman who will look good at a tea party? His thoughts drift back to the woman who saved him years earlier.  | Films that should be on dvd - KIPPS (1941) "Kipps", based on the novel by HG Wells and directed by Carol Reed at the Gaumont British Studios at Shepherd's Bush in 1941, was perhaps one of the most ambitious films produced at the studio when it was made. Financed by Twentieth Century Fox due to the financial crisis at Gaumont British, this together with "The Young Mr Pitt" also directed by Carol Reed marked the move towards longer period dramas at Gaumont British which really started in earnest with "The Man in Grey" the following year. The film Kipps is crammed full of period detail and starred Michael Redgrave and Phyllis Calvert. In this opening sequence, young actors Philip Frost (b. 1926) and Diana Caldewood (b.1927) are supported by Frank Pettingell, George Carney and Beatrice Varley. The story was later remade as "Half a sixpence" with Tommy Steele, and if you don't know the reason for the title change, watch this clip to find out.  | TVS ITV continuity 1983 From 1983 this junction break from TVS ITV in the south of England includes commercials featuring Terry Wogan, Felicity Kendall & Joanna Lumley, a programme trailer for "the Prisoner" starring Patrick McGoohan, and then finally announcer Brian Nissen introducing the Monday Matinee, "The Magic Bow" a 1946 Gainsborough Studios melodrama starring Stewart Granger and Phyllis Calvert.
