	The Hidden Cost of H.264  The cost is only part of the H.264 story. Article reference www.initsys.net H.264 was designed for forward streaming applications such as movie entertainment - not security. The two have very different requirements. While H.264 is excellent for streaming high resolution images, it is not designed to be played back in slow-mode and allow for extraction of high quality still images from anywhere in the recorded stream, which is an absolute must in a security application. This is not an inherent strength of H.264. Surveillance is about finding the right still frame and be able to zoom in to ID a person or event.
