Microsoft's Faster Internet Plan: Browsing Made Better for Mobile?Microsoft's Faster Internet Plan: Browsing Made Better for Mobile?
I can haz faster web? The Internet Engineering Task Force, the standards body that exists to improve our expanding digital landscape, is set to receive a proposal from Microsoft to upgrade Hypertext Transfer Protocol, or HTTP, the language used between computer browsers and web servers. Google would like to replace HTTP with their SPDY (PRONO—SPEEDY) protocol, which they say is 50% faster and is already supported by Chrome and Firefox. Microsoft's proposal, called HTTP Speed+Mobility, builds on SPDY but also addresses the needs of mobile devices and applications. The hope is that the IETF will combine ideas from both platforms to create a new standardization that will get you your cute kitten videos before you can say, "Awww!" Giant tech companies working together to give us things faster online? Maybe the Internet isn't evil after all.
