ANNI FRIND (1900-1987) Max Reger: Waldeinsamkeit, orchestra conducted by Bruno Seidler-Winkler. Electrola EG 3643, recorded March 1936. Anni Frind was born 3 February 1900 in Nixdorf, Bohemia, presently Czechoslovakia, At an early age she showed a talent for musc and soon began vocal studies in Dresden where her teachers we Eleanor Kahler-Riese, Grete Merrem-Nikish, and Luise Willer. Her professional debut in 1922 at the Grosse Volksoper, Berlin, in a minor role was soon followed by more demanding assignments, and a stage career which led eventually to opera and operetta appearances at the Staatsoper, Munich, the Salzburg Festival (1926) and in Berlin, Dresden, and other major European cities. She was especially noted for her interpretations of Mélisande, Gretel, Papagena, Cio-Cio-San, Musetta, and Adele. (from notes by Jack Belsom)

ANNI FRIND (1900-1987) Der Vogelhändler (Carl Zeller): Querschnitt with Anita Gura, soprano, Willyrte, tenor, Wilhelm Franz Reuss, conductor, Berlin Philharmonic and Chorus of the Deutsches Opernhauses, Berlin [Telefunken E 1614, Matrix Nrs. 09600-50/09601-I-50]. This delightful Querschnitt, or potpourri, was issued by Centaur Records in a collection titled Anni Frind From Opera and Operetta [CRC 2116]. It is presented at the request of CurzonRoad who posted Elisabeth Schumann singing "The Nightingale Song" from Der Vogelhändler. Anni Frind was born 3 February 1900 in Nixdorf, Bohemia, presently Czechoslovakia. At an early age she showed a talent for music and soon began vocal studies in Dresden. Her teachers were Eleanor Kahler-Riese, Grete Merrem-Nikish, and Luise Willer. Her professional debut in 1922 at the Grosse Volksoper, Berlin, in a minor role, was soon followed by more demanding assignments which led eventually to opera and operetta appearances at the Staatsoper, Munich, the Salzburg Festival (1926) and in Berlin, Dresden, and other major European cities. She was especially noted for her interpretations of Mélisande, Gretel, Papagena, Cio-Cio-San, Musetta, and Adele. She made delightful appearances in many operettas and consequently became known as "Die Operettendiva."
