![]() | Basic MEMS fabrication (UAHuntsville) This video attempts to show all the steps that are used (cleaning, baking, exposure, development, etc) for a few common microfabrication processes. This is not the complete procedure for the device being made -- research on electric batteries that can run on proteins. Rather, this video was made because I felt that most basic MEMS videos left out a lot of steps that are actually used, eg, baking, or spin coating, etc. So, here you will see everything that is done for a simple device that is created with contact lithography, reactive ion etching, and wet etching. This whole process took about two hours to complete (though the wet etching will take an additional week). The intended audience is incoming college freshmen with little to none MEMS experience, so the explanations for how processes work are rather limited. For example, it is mentioned that reactive ion etching (RIE) uses plasma in a vacuum, but the details for why this work are left out.
