Bill Stewart of Dynamic Karma, a division of Software Dynamics, and Ian MacDonald were the original developers of the After Dark Screensavers with their Magic Screensaver for Windows back in 1989. It proved to be so popular that Software Dynamics enlisted the aid of a publisher to get wider distribution of their product. The publisher who showed enough interest was Berkeley Systems, a Mac-based publisher who believed back then that "If PC users were cool enough to appreciate screen savers, they would have bought a Mac." They were worried about being ostracized by the Mac community and didn't believe the Windows platform had a future. Magic was renamed After Dark 2.0 which was an outstanding success and made Berkeley confident that they could make even more money by cutting Bill; Ian and Software Dynamics out of the loop with the release of After Dark 3.0 which was created by Berkeley without Software Dynamic's input or approval. Berkeley deserved its fate: Around the turn of the century it was swallowed by Sierra On-Line which in turn was swallowed by Vivendi, a French multinational which completely destroyed both companies and almost itself when it declared a huge loss of 23 Billion Euros in 2002 due to epic mismanagement. 	Introduction to Shell Scripting  In DOS, OS/2, and Microsoft Windows, a batch file is a text file containing a series of commands intended to be executed by the command interpreter. Similar to job control language and other systems on mainframe and minicomputer systems, batch files were added to ease the work required for certain regular tasks by allowing the user to set up a batch script to automate many commands. When a batch file is run, the shell program (usually COMMAND.COM or cmd.exe) reads the file and executes its commands, normally line-by-line. Batch files are useful for running a sequence of executables automatically and are often used to automate repetitive or tedious processes. Unix-like operating systems (such as Linux) have a similar type of file called a shell script. This is the "Introduction to Shell Scripting"!
