Swing from Berlin (54) Warum nur - Warum ? (1942)Swing from Berlin (54) Warum nur - Warum ? (1942)
Please activate the HD function(720p) before watching the video or watch it with a larger type player (in 480p) by clicking on the title in order to avoid serious sound distortion (as YT has reduced sound quality and does not activate HD or HQ playback automatically). One of the first 78rpms I uploaded was this version of Warum nur - warum? by the great Willy Berking and his orchestra with vocals by Helmut Terpe. This early post had al the faults one tends to make when transferring 78rpm records : excessive cleaning and noise reduction Furthermore the record was in quite bad condition.. Recently I found a record in better condition, so I decided to make a new HD video and make this great song part of the Swing from Berlin series. Warum nur - warum was recorded in early 1942. The video is a continuation of the previous video, featuring items related to wartime cinema : *A Tobis (film company) catalogue and some of the movies featured in it *Magazine covers featuring Kristina Söderbaum, Lizzi Waldmüller and Klara Tabody *Cinema front in the city of Ghent (Gent) showing Die Geierwally ca. 1941 *Movie posters of : - Umwege zum Gluck with Lil Dagover and Viktor Staal - Späte Liebe with Paula Wessely - Ein Mann auf Abwegen with Hans Albers - Frau Sylvelin with Heinrich George and Maria von Tasnady - Maja zwischen zwei Ehen with Lil Dagover - Der Vorhang fällt with Anneliese Uhlig - Achtung! Feind hört mit with Kirsten Heiberg and René Deltgen - Damals with Zarah Leander All ...

Hm-Hm, Du bist so zauberhaft! - Adolf Steimel Tanzorchester (1941)Hm-Hm, Du bist so zauberhaft! - Adolf Steimel Tanzorchester (1941)
This is a repost of the Swing from Berlin (53) video. Please activate the HD function(720p) before watching the video or watch it with a larger type player (in 480p) by clicking on the title in order to avoid serious sound distortion (as YT has reduced sound quality and does not activate HD or HQ playback automatically). A great Czech song that became a major hit in Germany was "Hm-Hm", which became : "Hm-Hm, du bist so zauberhaft" (Hm-hm, you are magic).... Many versions exist but this rendition by Adolf Steimel and his orchestra features a lead female vocalist - Herta Berlo - with male chorus in stead of the other way around... It is the only female version I know of.... I also have versions by RA Dvorsky and Hans Carste - which can be found on YouTube as well as a version by Bernhard Etté which - unfortunately - is the least interesting one.... The record's theme is cinema in Belgium during the occupation in the Second World War.... Movie theaters became an important refuge for the war weary audience and there were a lot of cinemas in Belgium... During the Occupation, the majority of movies shown were either German or French with some Italian, Spanish and Czech movies as well.... English and American pictures were of course banned... The majority of pictures shown were musicals, operettas and melodramas along with some propagandamovies. Most popular were : Zarah Leander, Marika Rökk and Kristina Söderbaum as well as Emil Jannings and Heinrich George - whose films had ...
