![]() | Apologist Flannel, Debunked There is a tendency floating around; a tendency to imply that the unpopularity of a philosophy known as "logical positivism", means that all philosophy informed by natural science is useless, and which has lead to the majority of philosophers to recant their secular ways and embrace the Lord as their saviour. In this video, I flush this floater away to were it belongs. I give some examples of the implication. I discuss why naturalism doesn't depend on logical positivism. I question the statistical evidence for any claim that most philosophers are theists, or are rapidly becoming so. I conclude that atheism remains a viable philosophical position, despite the "logical positivism is dead" objection to it. ![]() | Dialogue on the Principal Systems of the World More info at - philpapers.org www.createspace.com This theorises that gravity is actually a repulsive force capable of producing both attraction and "dark energy", and that matter (along with the nuclear forces) is formed by gravity's interaction with electromagnetism in wave packets -- so gravitational energy would be unified with electromagnetism as well as matter and the universe could be more than a vast collection of the countless photons, electrons and other quantum particles within it; it could be a unified whole that has particles and waves built into something ... plausibly, its union of digital 1's and 0's; enabling reality to function like a computer-generated touchable hologram and to be both analog and digital in nature. Gravitational waves are also unified with quantum probability waves and, since Einstein said gravity is the warping of space, with space and time (space-time). My article also attempts to specify exactly how gravitons interact with photons, and speculates on the combination of gravitational waves/binary-digit reality possibly overcoming disasters and death -- as well as the associated topics of time travel and parallel universes (the association isn't immediately apparent, but will be made clear). 2011年05月05日再生回数 65 |
![]() | RevolutionEvolutionAndGod.wmv This is my entry in the NESCent video contest. It describes my new theory of evolution. Evolution as we know it is the modifier, not originator, of species. To describe origins, I combine this modifier with future science's cosmic-quantum unification and deal with topics like God, synthetic biology and time travel. If more info is desired, I include links to a philosophy paper I wrote (philpapers.org as well as a book I wrote (www.createspace.com 2011年05月09日再生回数 62 |
![]() | Osama still lives, Mr. President-but it isn't life as we know it.wmv I believe Osama bin Laden has life ... but not as we know it. First, consider the remarkable achievements of genetic engineering and biotechnology during the last half-century. For some scientists, it´s no longer enough to move genes from one species to another, or to create animals or bacteria that secrete certain drugs or hormones. Now science is working on synthetic biology - things such as engineering many genes to work together, artificial DNA, creation of totally new amino acids and proteins and artificial life, and cloning animals. What happens if we take these advances after centuries of development and combine them with advances in computer science as well as a future in which the cloning of humans is no longer politically taboo? We could see science creating the ancestral forms of the plants, animals and even humans around us. And we could see Osama's body being reproduced and his mind being downloaded into it. However, an opportunity to possess not only an eternally youthful body but also a brain free of criminal tendencies would exist. The synthetic biology and bioengineering of centuries to come will ensure that Osama's brain is purged of the hate and murderous thoughts that occupied it in this lifetime. You might say "this is good if it comes to pass" but you might also remember the evil this man did and still be glad that he's living many, many years from now. It's necessary to forget attachments to the past (no matter how recent it is) and remember that ... 2011年05月03日再生回数 180 |
