 | AIDS Drug To Be Phased Out The government has announced that it is phasing out the use of the first line of the HIV and aids drug, Stavudine, due to its harmful side effects on patients. In its place, the world health organization is recommending the use of another drug called Tenofovir, which reportedly has less side effects and is likely to increase adherence since it is taken once daily. La sugerencia es que se utilicen otros como el Zidovudine o el Tenofovir, que se consideran "igualmente efectivos". Her results revealed she was HIV positive, with a CD4 count of 166. She was placed on a triple therapy treatment programme -- meaning she was given Stavudine, Lamivudine and Nevirapine for herself as well as Nevirapine for her baby.
