![]() | It's no iPhone killer. But then again Nokia's E90 goes after OK, so what smartphone * Does audio, video, and still images (replete with a 3.2 megapixel camera)? * Comes unlocked (ready for a SIM) to connect to a GSM network? * Supports HSDPA (the faster of the two GSM flavored nets, the iPhone supports the slower one known as EDGE) * Can browse the Web via a cellular or WiFi connection? * Makes for both a great phone and a great messaging device (and can attach to corporate email)? * Has a hardware-based keyboard and a separate numeric keypad? * Has a removable battery? * Supports Bluetooth's A2DP stereo headset profile? * Can open and edit Microsoft Office documents (and open PDF docs too)? * Supports the IMAP protocol for e-mail retrieval (better for folder support in email). If you guessed Nokia's E90, you guessed right. OK, so the headline gave it away. While at Interop in NYC, I took a spin by Nokia's booth where the E90 was on display. Now, I've given a lot of video attention to some of Nokia's hottest mobile devices. In June of this year, I covered (via video) the N95 which comes with a 5-megapixel camera (is it a camera with a phone or a phone with a camera) and then last month, I covered (again, via video) the newer N95 as well as a prototype of the N81. 2007年10月27日再生回数 46417 |
![]() | Sony's paper-thin 'rollable' flexible OLED display A prototype Sony organic light emitting diode, or OLED, display is flexible enough to roll around a No. 2 pencil. The next generation of display technologies promises crisp, bright, colorful images that dont require a backlight — but theyre incredibly expensive and rigid in form factor. Until now. Sony demonstrated in Japan on Wednesday an ultra-thin 4.1-inch OLED that can roll as tightly as a radius of 4 millimeters and still operate normally — a worlds first, according to the company. How thin is ultrathin? Approximately 80μm thick, with a resolution of 432 by 240 pixels at 121 pixels per inch. The roll-up OLED display touts a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and manages a brightness level of 100 cd/m2. (from Smartplanet.com) 2010年05月27日再生回数 13229 |

![]() | Amazon Allegedly 'Under Investigation' By UK Tax Authorities BY SUZANA DALUL ANCHOR NATHAN BYRNE Britain's largest online retailer Amazon has been legally avoiding corporate taxes in the UK for years, a recent investigation by the Guardian suggests. The company, which sells 25 percent of the books in the UK, is using loopholes in EU law. ZDNet explains: "Amazon allegedly managed the trick by operating in the UK as an 'order fulfilment' and delivery service, while sales transactions were made directly between UK customers and Amazon EU Sàrl, based in Luxembourg." The Independent reports, lower tax rates in Luxembourg have probably made it a more desirable headquarters location. But the online retailer is currently being investigated by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs. The gap between the revenue earned and taxes paid in the UK is huge, says the Independent. "For last year, 2011, according to an investigation by the Bookseller magazine, Amazon generated sales of more than £3bn, but paid no UK corporation tax on that turnover." And while Amazon's UK managing director Christopher North claims it pays Britain's 20% value added tax, there might be other loopholes the online retailer exploits, reports the Guardian. "...this only applies to physical products -- and books are zero-rated. Tax on ebooks is at the rate set by Luxembourg... Instead of charging tax at the national VAT rate, it takes only 3%, on the grounds that electronic publications are of cultural significance." But, other reports claim lawmakers and laws are to blame. A ... 2012年04月07日再生回数 42 |
