![]() | ZEUS (Clash of the Gods) 1/4 In Greek mythology Zeus (Ancient Greek: Ζεύς; Modern Greek: Δίας, Dias) is the "Father of Gods and men", according to Hesiod's Theogony, who ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus as a father ruled the family; he was the god of sky and thunder in Greek mythology. As Walter Burkert points out in his book, Greek Religion, "Even the gods who are not his natural children address him as Father, and all the gods rise in his presence."(Iliad, book 1.503;533) For the Greeks, he was the King of the Gods, who oversaw the universe. As Pausanias observed, "That Zeus is king in heaven is a saying common to all men". In Hesiod's Theogony, Zeus assigns the various gods their roles. In the Homeric Hymns he is referred to as the chieftain of the gods. His symbols are the thunderbolt, eagle, bull, and oak. In addition to his Indo-European inheritance, the classical "cloud-gatherer" also derives certain iconographic traits from the cultures of the Ancient Near East, such as the scepter. Zeus is frequently depicted by Greek artists in one of two poses: standing, striding forward, with a thunderbolt leveled in his raised right hand, or seated in majesty. Zeus was the child of Cronus and Rhea, and the youngest of his siblings. In most traditions he was married to Hera, although, at the oracle of Dodona, his consort was Dione: according to the Iliad, he is the father of Aphrodite by Dione. He is known for his erotic escapades. These resulted in many godly and heroic offspring, including Athena ... 2010年10月13日再生回数 61452 |

![]() | Zeus-That's All Zeus is a Toronto-based Canadian indie rock band, signed to the record label Arts & Crafts, whose members include Mike O'Brien, Carlin Nicholson, Rob Drake and Neil Quin. Along with Afie Jurvanen (Paso Mino, Bahamas), they formed Jason Collett's back-up band Dark Horse[1] for many years before recording under the name Zeus. Their debut EP Sounds like Zeus was released by Arts & Crafts in June 2009,[2] and includes a cover of the Genesis song "That's All".[3] The band's debut album, Say Us, was released February 23, 2010.[4] A vinyl LP was released two weeks ahead of the CD release.[5] In March 2010, the band performed at the world renowned SxSW Music Festival with long-time collaborators Jason Collett and Bahamas. O'Brien and Nicholson were childhood friends in Barrie, Ontario,[7] and played in one another's first bands along with Afie Jurvanen. When Afie was recruited by producer Howie Beck to play guitar for Jason Collett, Afie brought along his friends, who had learned all of Collett's album Idols of Exile before their audition. Jurvanen describes Zeus as sounding like the Band behind Collett, and sounding like Crazy Horse behind Bahamas. en.wikipedia.org 2010年03月27日再生回数 23951 |
