In this 10-part series, Dr. Leffler covers the information found in his book Petroleum Refining in Nontechnical Language, 4th Edition, breaking down into easily digestible concepts each basic principle of refining. NOW AVAILABLE! #1 History/Oil Patch to Refinery/Crude Oil In the first of the 10-part series, History/Oil Patch to Refinery/Crude Oil, Dr. Leffler outlines the history of the petroleum industry, its milestones and accomplishments. Then Dr. Leffler provides an overview of how the oil gets from the oil patch to the refinery. He concludes by explaining the composition of crude oil and discussing the qualities and characteristics of each type of crude. ISBN13 978-1-59370-198-7 #2 Distilling/Vacuum Flashing In the second of the 10-part series, Distilling and Vacuum Flashing, Dr. Leffler takes you into the refinery, and illustrates the process of separating the various components within crude oil using a process called distillation. He then explains how refiners further separate the components of crude through vacuum flashing. ![]() | Valvoline Next Generation The Oil Recycling Process Valvoline Next Generation Re-Cycling Motor Oil -- From Oil Pan to Oil Can Most people know how to change their auto oil, but really aren't sure of what to do with it afterwards. Most people think used motor oil is trash and this is typically where the motor oil lifecycle ends, but it doesn't have to be that way. Instead it can be where oil recycling begins. The make-up of most motor oils is 85% motor oil and 15% additives. The oil molecules do not break down, only the additives molecules. These breakdown by design as contaminates build up. The vast majority of the oil molecules don't wear out, they simply need to be cleaned and re-refined. If we separate the additives and contaminates from the still good base oil, we can reuse it to make high quality oil. Modern re-refining does exactly that. By removing contaminates and additives to create base oils, we find the oil is as good as the day it was first refined. Thomas Smith, vice president of lubricants technology, discusses how in the past Valvoline was not able to get high enough quality in the base oil to begin the recycling process through acid clay treatment. Now with new technology and processes, Valvoline has re-defined how to refine processed oil. In fact it uses the same refining technology that processes crude oil today. It even produces the same results. Motor Oil that exceeds the tough standards set by the American Petroleum Institute. Scott Wieland, Valvoline product development scientist, explains the used ... 2011年05月03日再生回数 2221 |
![]() | Valvoline Next Generation Re-Cycling Motor Oil -- Making an Impact If everyone used Valvoline NextGen recycled oil we would save 1.6 billion quarts of oil or nearly 10 million barrels of oil annually! That's enough barrels of oil to reach from NYC to LA and back again every year! With recycling and teaching the next generations of technicians, engineers and car guys we can reduce our dependence on crude and help the environment. The more everyone is aware of just how recycled oil is made, and what great quality it can be, the more everyone understands the impact it could have to helping reduce our dependence on foreign oil and preserving our environment. Here's your chance to do more -- go to www.valvoline.com and take the "Let's Do More" pledge to recycle oil and to use recycle oil for your oil changes. It's a simple way for us all to work together to do the right thing. After all -- that's all it takes to change your oil. You can find Valvoline NextGen oils at your local Pep Boys or you can go online to www.pepboys.com -www.pepboys.com to learn more about recycled oil and how you can make a difference. 2011年05月03日再生回数 2631 |
