UC Men's Octet - Bohemian RhapsodyUC Men's Octet - Bohemian Rhapsody
7-part acapella arrangement. Spring show 2003. To those who wonder where the 8th member is, go see the video "UC Men's Octet- 2003 opening video". Note: To alleviate any confusion, Rockapella never did this arrangement. Some time in the late 90's, the Octet's recording of this song was mislabeled online as a Rockapella song. This acapella arrangement has been passed along within the group from year to year since the 80's. The original arranger, it is believed, was a member of another Berkeley group in the mid-80's, and the Octet adopted the tune a couple years later.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - UC Men's OctetSupercalifragilisticexpialidocious - UC Men's Octet
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins performed by the UC Berkeley Men's Octet at the West Coast A Capella Showcase, November 14, 2009, Wheeler Auditorium. Lyrics: To tell the truth the word is long but not without a purpose For if you were to cram all meaning in one word you'd know this That though you may be down and sadly sit and frown This word may be of help, and also of great service. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Even though the sound of it is quite ridiculocious If you say it loud enough you may just sound obnoxious Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle eye Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle eye I know what you are thinking, you think "Hey, that's not a word!" But Microsoft Word didn't underline it, so it's not absurd. And it could mean anything if you say it right Try it backwards, forwards, how about inside out, alright! Dociousaliexpeisticfragicalirupus Alicaliexpeisticdociousalisuper Fragicalidociousexpeisticalisuper *Gasp* He did not just say that! Hey man, Im sorry... *Slap!* Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Um diddle diddle diddle um diddle eye Oh, not a key change, please, I cant sing that high! Fine! Back down... Not only can you rearrange the way you say the word But based on how you sing and if you alter every chord We can change dramatically what we really mean For singing style means much more than genre as you will see. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (4xs) Well, that was inappropriate. Lets show ...

Octet Rule SongOctet Rule Song
This video teaches about atomic structure and chemical bonding, using the octet rule model of electron configuration. While the octet rule model has limitations, it's great for explaining covalent and ionic bonding among the elements in the first three rows of the periodic table. For biology students at the high school level, it's about all chemistry you need to know.

Steve Reich, Octet (Eight Lines), part 1, Jackson PollockSteve Reich, Octet (Eight Lines), part 1, Jackson Pollock
Steve Reich, Octet (Eight Lines), part 1, performed by Steve Reich and Musicians, April 1979. Paintings are by Jackson Pollock (1912-1956). "The point is, if you went to Paris and dug up Debussy and said, 'Excusez-moi Monsieur, are you an impressionist?' he'd probably say 'Merde!' and go back to sleep. That is a legitimate concern of musicologists, music historians, and journalists, and it's a convenient way of referring to me, Riley, Glass, La Monte Young [...] it's become the dominant style. But, anybody who's interested in French Impressionism is interested in how different Debussy and Ravel and Satie are—and ditto for what's called minimalism. [...] Basically, those kind of words are taken from painting and sculpture, and applied to musicians who composed at the same period as that painting and sculpture was made [...]." SR—From an Interview with Rebecca Y. Kim, 2000 [23] "When I am in my painting, I'm not aware of what I'm doing. It is only after a sort of 'get acquainted' period that I see what I have been about. I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through. It is only when I lose contact with the painting that the result is a mess. Otherwise there is pure harmony, an easy give and take, and the painting comes out well." JP
